Rosie
Rosie is a playful collaboration with fellow Asheville based artists Austin Sebek and Sun Brother that is unique to my discography. I met Austin and Billy (Sun Brother) shortly after moving to Asheville in 2022, in fact they may have been my first music friends in town. We started getting together to play music casually (I hate this term, but some would call it “jamming), and quickly discovered that we had some musical chemistry going on. I don’t know whose idea it was, but collectively we decided on a concept for a collaboration; a six song EP with two songs written by each of us, all home recorded, and performed only by the three of us. After setting this creative framework we methodically began the process of recording our songs. Over the course of two years and probably at least 40 recording and collaboration sessions we put together the recordings that would eventually make up the Rosie EP. I was new to doing home recording seriously before this project so I learned a lot about that process vs the more traditional recording studio experience and got the opportunity to play a few non-primary instruments that I don’t get the opportunity to perform on record much (Bass Guitar, Keys, Percussion). I also got to develop and hone my skills as a harmony singer! Most of these songs feature lush 3 part harmonies. The intensely collaborative nature of the project took the songs to unexpected places, it was a real joy putting this one together.
